WHAT IS BED MANUFACTURE?
Bed Manufacturers work in factory environments where the ability to work to agreed targets in terms of output and quality standards is essential. Manufacturers often work shift systems and the seasonality of the industry, plus peaks and troughs in orders, often demands overtime working.
This new Bed Manufacture Apprenticeship is part of the Furniture Manufacture Apprenticeship Standard. Apprentices will follow a programme of learning covering the following elements.
- Core Requirements - Industry, Organisation, Materials, Quality Standards, Health & Safety, Maintain Tools & Equipments, Problem Solving, Time Management
- Route 1 - Mattress Making - Spring Making, Quilting, Stitching, Sewing
- Route 2 - Divan and Headboard Making - Sewing, Headboard Manufacture, Upholstery, CNC Routering, Wood Machining, Frame Making
WHAT IS THE APPRENTICESHIP STANDARD?
This is a new style of Apprenticeship. Standards are occupation-focused, they are not qualification-led.
The learning happens throughout the apprenticeship and the apprentice is assessed at the end.
They need to prove that they can carry out all aspects of their job. They develop transferable skills and gain credibility too.
The Apprentice will gather evidence from the workplace, which will be placed into an electronic portfolio. They will also study eLearning and eTesting modules as well as receiving high quality training from experienced Didac staff.
As part of the Apprenticeship, it is recommended learners take the following qualification:
- 603/0204/5 -OAL Level 2 NVQ in Bed Making
